I've found that natural light (no flash) looks best, taken In the morning or early afternoon in the sunniest room in the house (near a window but not in harsh direct sunlight). First overall diffuse light to illuminate it and then a single beam from an angle to cast a shadow. Play with moving that one around till you get the effect you want.
